Teaching Fungi in Unlikely Places

Katie Thompson and Deb Lewis of ISU present a pink mushroomLa Poste in Perry, Iowa recently hosted a fungi presentation during a band's break during a Happy Hour event. It all started with a Perry resident's enthusiasm at finding a pink mushroom. Invited to talk about the species of mushrooms, Rhodotus palmatus, EEOB graduate student Katie Thomspon also shared the multitude of ways we make us of and interact with fungi. Of course, she included the beer and wine that the audience was consuming. In an odd twist, the band’s name was Stranger Than Fiction, and the capacity crowd indeed found themselves part of a strange, but delightful, evening!
