Biology 211 - Principles of Biology
Biology 211 is the first semester of a year-long sequence of Principles of Biology intended for life science, and other science majors. This course explores biological diversity, transmission genetics, evolution, and ecology. The course is taught in a large class format of ~ 200 students. There is a companion laboratory course (Biology 211L) that most students also enroll in. One of the most conceptually and philosophically challenging aspects of Biology 211 is the unit on evolution. A substantial portion of the students enrolled in Biology 211 have not been previously exposed to effective instruction in evolution. Sample lectures regarding evolution are available here. My syllabus from a recent offering of Biology 211 is here.
