Research interests involve the study of various aspects of the biology of reptiles. A number of students work under Dr. Janzen's direction on projects including population genetic structure and molecular evolution in Apalone species, evolutionary physiology in Chrysemys and other turtle species, and computational biology, evolutionary ecology, and conservation of vulnerable populations of reptiles along the Mississippi River.

Our research includes field studies of turtle nesting behavior, analysis of molecular evolution and its patterns, selection theory, experimental analysis of life-history evolution, computer modelling of hybrid zones and population demography, geographic information systems, and many other projects involving the ecology, evolution, and genetics of herps.
