Functional ecology, restoration ecology, agroecology -- A general goal of my research is to explore the functional attributes of plants (e.g. physiological, morphological, and life history characteristics) and to relate these to the structure and functioning of plant populations and communities. Prairie, wetland, crop, and weed species are examined by combining studies of plant characteristics and microenvironments. Acclimation processes in leaves are of special interest. Problems and techniques involved with reconstructing prairies are also being explored.
