Charles Drewes Memorial Fund
Dear Colleagues and Friends of Charlie Drewes
Many of you have been writing asking whether a fund has been established to honor Charlie and preserve his memory. Toward that end I wish to share with you the news that the EEOB Department has established the Charles Drewes Memorial Fund. My hope is to build this fund to a level that it may, as an endowment, perpetually support academic enterprises important to Charlie. These activities include but are not limited to excellence in biology education, student mentoring, teacher education, and invertebrate zoology. For the short term, the fund will be an ISU Foundation expendable account managed by EEOB. If we are successful in attracting large donations or key donors, we will take any steps necessary to transform the account into an endowment (e.g., drafting a more specific memorandum of agreement with a donor).
Please make note of this information and pass it along to whomever you can think of that might be interested. I have spoken with the family and they strongly support this action. As amply evidenced at the memorial gathering this past week and by the many emails and messages many of us have received, Charlie was beloved and admired in many circles, and it would be nice to have this message reach as many of these people as possible. If you have received inquiries or messages from old and/or new friends of Charlie's, please share this with them. Also, if anyone wishes to discuss this fund or make the kind of significant contribution that could comprise all or a large portion of an endowment, they should be encouraged to contact either me (contact information below) or Michael Gens, who is the LAS Development Officer with whom I am working (he may be reached at 515-294-0921; email firstname.lastname@example.org).
If you wish to make a donation, please make the check out to the ISU Foundation, ear-marked with a notation for the Charles Drewes Memorial Fund , and mail it to the ISU Foundation at 2505 University Blvd, Ames, IA 50010. Thank you very much for your consideration and for helping in this fund-raising effort.
Sincerely, and with gratitude,
Jonathan F. Wendel, Professor and Chair
