Panicum virgatum

Switchgrass is a prairie grass native to Iowa. Several horticultural selections are available that vary from the native species in color, height, and other growth characteristics. Switchgrass has been planted on conservation reserve lands in Iowa to provide cover for birds and other wildlife through the winter.
