The Central Iowa Beekeepers Association (CIBA) hosted their Winter Seminar on Saturday 20, 2018. The public event featured three speakers, Dr. Amy Toth, graduate student Alex Walton, and ISU extension entomologist Randall Cass.
Toth's talk "Infiltrating the hive mind: How parasites and pathogens manipulate honey bee behavior" explored how honey bee social behavior can make them prime targets to pathogens. Walton spoke on the individual behavioral differences within the honey bee work force. Crandall shared his experience working with a Beekeeping co-op in rural El Salvador.
