Dr. Chaoqun (Crystal) Lu has received a NSF CAREER award. The National Science Foundation (NSF) awards support to junior faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholar through research and education. The award provides five years of funding for research and educational activities.
Lu's funded project is titled Understanding the dynamics and predictability of land-to-aquatic nitrogen loading under climate extremes by combining deep learning with process-based modeling. The project will bridge the gaps between science and practice and disseminate the most current knowledge of Earth system modeling to the public. The team will develop a Monitoring-to-Modeling (M2M) learning platform, featuring an online watershed game of “choice and chance”, to make the complex concept of watershed management more concrete for the next-generation of scientists, land managers, policy makers, and voters.
