Celebrating a Brown Graduate Fellowship Recipient in EEOB: Bruno do Rosario Petrucci

The Department of Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology is pleased to announce that Bruno do Rosario Petrucci, PhD student in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology, has been awarded the Brown Graduate Fellowship.

Bruno’s research focuses on the development and application of advanced statistical and computational methods to address fundamental questions in macroevolution, phylogenetics, and paleontology. His work includes the creation of open-source software tools, major contributions to the widely used RevBayes platform, and innovative empirical research integrating fossil and living species.

In addition to his research excellence, Bruno is a highly regarded educator and mentor. He has received multiple teaching awards, including the Iowa State Teaching Excellence Award, and is consistently recognized for his commitment to student learning and inclusive instruction. He is also an active leader within the department and broader scientific community, with sustained service to graduate student organizations and departmental committees.

The Brown Graduate Fellowship Program was established in 2011 and administered by the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR), the annual Brown Graduate Fellowship Program is used to advance Iowa State research in the areas of study covered by the Valentine Hammes Family and Leopold Hammes Brown Family Trust. These research emphases include science, agriculture, and space science.
